Great primer on advertising and getting a grip on how Amazon's systems work.
This book is always being touted as one of the (if not THE) book to read for anybody looking to get their writing published.
I'm a bit slow on the uptake, I know, but I finally read it, and I wasn't disappointed. Even though I've published three books already, I still learnt a lot I didn't know. And even though the book is three years old now, there's still tons of valuable stuff in it.
It takes you through the beginning stages of self-publishing and digital publishing, including what it is, and why you need to consider it. Then there's the technical stuff, including how to format, and tips about sampling (move as much of your front matter to the back of the book as possible so that people can read as much of the actual book as possible in the sample), to the business side of things and the …

I especially liked the resources section, full of advice on how to get short stories published for maximum profit, how to apply for a US tax certificate to exempt international authors from the 30% withholding, to tons and tons and TONS of blogs and articles you should read if you want to know about the business of writing.
And then there's the "Contributions" section: thirty-two successful indie writers with testimonials of where they started, where they are now, and how they got there. At first, I thought that section would be depressing, reading all those success stories when I'm still floundering, and yeah, I guess there was a bit of those. But it was way more motivational than I thought it would be. Some of them are selling thousands of copies a day and making six figure salaries yes (those are the depressing ones), but most of them are just like me. Perhaps a bit further on in their writing career, but just like me. When they were two years in, like I am, they were struggling, just like I am. Some of them took years and years to earn a liveable income, and they give really practical advice for just how they did it.
This is a truly inspirational and educational book, and I HIGHLY recommend it!
