It was okay, I guess.
I was listening to the audiobook and when I got halfway through the book, I was like, âwait, Iâm halfway through already? Has anything interesting even happened?â
I agree that Dresden choosing to not communicate a certain critical piece of information was just idiotic and a blatant attempt at building tension. Itâs not the kind of secret that can or should be kept. And then, when at the end of the book Dresden thinks, âyeah, I really need to say it.â I canât help but think, nothingâs really changed about the situation; if you could tell him now, you couldâve told him earlier.
The one interesting thing about this book - that made this slightly better than Ghost Story - is that it built an interesting cliffhanger (with Ghost Story you can skip the whole book and you wouldnât have missed anything).

I was originally wondering why Audible was telling me the next book is coming out in October. Now I feel like they just split the one story into two books.
Maybe to recoup some of the money of having no proper Dresden books out for the past 6-7 years? Thatâs the cynical part of me talking.
Anyway, this is a book you need to read if you want to follow the Dresden series, but I wouldnât hold too high of an expectation.
