Surprisingly nuanced for YA fantasy, this book manages to be sweet and uplifting without being saccharine. At the same time, there are some surprises here that suck the usual narratives.
DELIGHTFUL! Moth is such an utterly charming protagonist, and her talking-cat sidekick is everything I've ever wanted in this life. Grapples with complicated issues of history, identity, and belonging, but is also laugh-out-loud funny and bright and beautiful to look at. I hope there are 18 sequels.
