There are a lot of tropes filling this YA fantasy but ultimately that is what made this book for me. While Ash Princess ticks a lot of YA boxes including: forbidden love/enemies to lovers, love triangle, lost heir/prisoner heir, and rebellion, it also deals with some heavy topics and has a list of triggers to be aware of going in. This book was exactly what I was craving, not as heavy as current adult fantasy while still having some gravity to an otherwise familiar trope-filled adventure. This book has been on my shelf since it's release and I am so happy to have picked it up and look forward to continuing to binge the trilogy.
