Rubbish. Koontz is not funny, but he really tries to make his characters funny. They're about as funny as a character on Full House. It is really frustrating to try to get through an otherwise mediocre story with the main character cracking jokes with a third grader's sense of humor. He has a cringe worthy, glib way of writing about things he clearly doesn't understand.
I can suspend my disbelief to read about supernatural subject matter. However, this story takes place in a monastery where every monk character has a ridiculous past. I cannot suspend my disbelief for a cast of characters that include a billionaire, a retired mob enforcer, and something else that would be a spoiler to mention. I made it three books in, and now I'm throwing in the towel. Boo-urns.
