Tron Uprising

First off, addressing my Bias: I adore Tron: Uprising, the animated series. Good writing, good acting, & mind-blowing animation. I purchased the Junior Novel as a desperate attempt to support the series outside of the episodes themselves, as the show as little to no merchandising.

And I was pleasantly surprised.

The Junior Novel showed the same quality & thought that's put into the show, and despite having already seen the episodes this is based on, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

This particular book is a novelization of the 2nd & 3rd episode of the series, The Renegade, Parts 1 & 2. It tells the story of Beck as he's first adjusting to his new identity as Tron (Or as the citizens of argon are calling him, The Renegade) and gets in over his head as he accidentally finds himself in The Games. He teams up with the war-veteran Culter, and fights his way to freedom.

The writing is good, if not choppy once or twice. Overall though, I was impressed. The novel embellishes a bit from the show to add to the experience without changing the story, and I liked how it gave an extra level of sensory detail (Ex: It referred to The Outlands as a cold place, which is something that hadn't occurred to me while watching the show) to the story.

It even added a little something concerning Cutler that I'm not sure if we can consider canon to the television series or not, but I personally hope it is considering what a great twist it was.

My only complaint is where the novel stops. It ends before the episode, where Beck, as the Renegade, has just broken Culter out of his cell, and leaves out the episode ending where they actually escape in a large action chase scene. The Mara & Zed subplot also is left unresolved completely (thankfully I've seen how it ends on TV XD). It all seems sort of sudden, and almost like they wanted to have a follow up novel, but didn't get it.

Aside from that, great read. I enjoyed it and I think you will, too. :D
