Florence Dayová je stínovou spisovatelkou, která má velký problém. Má psát milostné romány za slavnou autorku romantických knížek, ale po zdrcujícím rozchodu přestala věřit na lásku. A když jí její nový, přísný a akurátní (ovšem nepopiratelně sexy) redaktor Benji Andor odmítne znovu prodloužit termín odevzdání posledního rukopisu, je Florence připravená svou kariéru pověsit na hřebík.
Pak ale udeří tragédie; Florence se musí naléhavě vrátit domů – a to poslední, co čeká, je, že se u jejích dveří objeví duch. A ne jen tak ledajaký. V celé své upjaté kráse se jí začne zjevovat přízrak jejího nového redaktora, který je pořád hrozně sexy, ale taky nepochybně velmi mrtvý.
Když mezi nimi začnou přeskakovat první jiskry, je Florence víc než jasné, že se nemůže a nesmí zamilovat do ducha. Ale může jí Benji pomoct uvědomit si, že láska přece jen nevymřela?
This was a good mix of heartfelt family connection and good old-fashioned YEARNING. Not life changing, and it took me a while it finish it. Some of the characters I feel like could have been fleshed out more, and Florence gave me some Liz Buxaum vibes at times traumatic flashback but overall pretty solid and entertaining romance novel.
Das Buch hat eine tolle Prämisse. Aber das war's dann auch schon.
Die Geschichte hatte so viel Potenzial, das leider nicht genutzt wurde. Und dafür, dass es in dem Buch primär um die Liebe und den Tod geht, haben mir beim Lesen einfach die großen Emotionen gefehlt. Das einzige was ich gefühlt habe, war Genervtheit. Außerdem kann ich den Gedanken nicht abschütteln, dass die Autorin im wirklichen Leben noch nie eine geliebte Person verloren hat. Das kann ich einfach nicht glauben, so wie mit dem plötzlichen Tod des Vaters der Protagonistin umgegangen wird. [Das ist übrigens kein Spoiler, sondern passiert nach wenigen Kapiteln.]
Der "große" Plottwist ist schon nach 100 Seiten mehr als offensichtlich, trotzdem sind die Figuren noch mehr als 200 weitere Seiten lang ahnungslos. Und die schlussendliche Auflösung war dann nicht halb so dramatisch, wie ich gehofft habe. Da kamen mir einfach wieder die Emotionen zu kurz.

Fazit: Ich hätte den Roman abbrechen sollen, als mir um Seite 150 die ersten Zweifel kamen.
There are some books that you hit a certain point and you’re hooked and you’re going to finish this book as quickly as possible. Maybe it’s on the first few pages. Maybe it’s halfway through. It never came for me in this book. Overall I felt it kind of slow and the characters mostly meh. Plus the overall premise of a girl who gave up on love after being hurt but changing her mind after a short period of time with a man who’s too good to be true isn’t creative or inspiring. If you need an entertaining airport read or a beach read this book will probably do the trick.
This is the second accidental Keylo Rey (Reylo?) fanfic romance I read this year. I'm not really even into Star Wars. How does this keep happening?
A fun rom-com, with a supernatural twist that Ms. Poston managed to make as natural as the wind in the trees. Very enjoyable and even some important ruminations about what "normal" is, what it means to be flawed, impossible humans, and of course death.
A couple of small hiccups in grammar, and occasional clarity (I am very picky), but otherwise deftly paced, and the characters and circumstances were quite believable.
The "I'm so rAnDoMm" of books. Jokes that aren't funny, telling rather than showing, quirkiness as a personality. DNF at 71%
Was a firm 1 star, got somewhat better towards the end, so ended up a 2 star.
Nice premise, but I've read better.
