Review of 'Skyfaring: A Journey with a Pilot' on 'Goodreads'

I love flying. I think I must have boarded at least 18 planes this year already and I'm still not getting tired of it. On the contrary, I ten to get a bit nervous if I find myself without any booked flights for the weeks to come. And similar to the author of this book I especially enjoy the long haul ones.
So I should be the prime audience for this book. And in many ways the book lives up to my expectations. Fun stories about traveling up and high, technical details that one maybe doesn't think about too often when being a passenger (how does one define speed or altitude, The intricacies of time zones, being jet and place lagged) and lots of poetical observations about flying.
It's the latter part that got to me at some point. I like poetically waxing about things as much as the next …

It's the latter part that got to me at some point. I like poetically waxing about things as much as the next person, but it got a bit repetitive to my taste. Seeing the beauty of the world from above and considering how air travel connects us brings me to tears as much as reading about it. But reading the same thing three times in 30 minutes is getting a bit much.
Nevertheless a great read, recommended for all lovers of flight and maybe even people who are afraid of it. Now it's even more true that I can't wait to board my next plane. Luckily it's less than a week from now.
