The Laughing Corpse (Anita Blake Vampire Hunter)

It is this second book that convinced me of this series. I like how she is immediately confronted with about 4 different conflicts, that are of course somehow related. I also like that she's able to take care of herself. I kept expecting knights in shining armor or quote Anita "shining steeds" to save her.

The bloody murder scenes are reminiscent of Dexter with a little Buffy and Angel Heart (the movie) mixed in.

Having read the authors' afterword I am looking forward to what's to come in the next few installments.

As mentioned in previous reviews, Anita Black books are gory! LKH really writes the gore well. I was glad that the gore lessened about midway through the book (or maybe I just got used to it). Those first two crime scenes are harsh. I have learned, definitely do not read this series while eating! (I snatch reading time whenever I can and breakfast and lunch are prime targets, although not with this series unless I want nausea to accompany it.)

I am very interested in seeing where everything goes with this series. This particular copy of the book was obviously printed after several of the series have been released. It was neat to read at the end a little overview from the next 4-5 books. It is nice to see where things are going, although there is still a lot of mystery.
