Dark, timely sci-fi

Annie was created to be the perfect cuddle bunny companion, but after she was switched to autodidact mode, things are changing. She’s learning.

Greer writes well, and deftly brings up a host of issues for the reader to ponder. I found the first 20-30% of this book absolutely breathtaking and genuinely exciting. Though I didn’t find the ending quite as exquisite, I don’t see how Greer could have ended it in a truly satisfying (to me) way.

A very timely novel that deals with really heavy, dark themes but remains extremely readable. I’ll be reading more Greer novels in the future.

OMG what a great book

Very close to Klara and the sun. The book tells the inner life of a sex robot. I loved how it doesn't paint anything in black or white, especially the male character is presented as a difficult not-good-not-bad personality.

Review of 'Annie Bot' on 'Goodreads'

Bizarrely, this is the second sex bot novel I've read this year. It's better than the other one, "The Hierarchies". As is normal, there is no sex in these books.

Annie's developing sentience makes you feel sorry for her predicament - trapped with a controlling narcissist in an apartment with little to no stimulus. The novel feels claustrophobic because of it and the few times outside are euphoric moments when you get to feel alive, just like Annie.

Even with all the advances of technology, I hope we never have these things in our lives. Men are terrible enough anyway...Without actual consequences to their actions, men with sexbots would seriously set back society.

Good, could have been better but I enjoyed it.
