Here, at the end of the First Empire series, things pay off, but in ways that go beyond just plot elements. Age of Empyre reminds me of The Good Place. Much like The Good Place made you look at your preconceptions of good, evil, and the afterlife, Age of Empyre presents a full mythology that also serves as a vehicle for delivering a philosophy about life. It was ok. Events happened, characters interacted, everything was quite heroic, I loved the message of how to get out of the abyss. The epic genre remains tantalising to me though. It's just out of reach of me falling for it. There's too much room for small inconsistencies or lapses in logic which pull me out of the story.
