Fabulosa!

Wonderful read. Manages to be both a history book as well as a personal story. Polari to most people of my age is either unknown or associated with camp comedians. One thing that comes across strongly and movingly on here is how much this was both a brave statement as well as defense mechanism.

If you are interested in language, or gay history, you'll probably enjoy this book. It's written for a lay audience, but still goes pretty in-depth. It also includes a little glossary of Polari terms at the end. For me, the most moving part was the Polari Evensong toward the end of the book. There's a lot to learn here, useful and less so :)
