The Bonehunters are marching to Kolanse, and to an unknown fate. They are exhausted - an army on the brink of mutiny. But their commander will not relent. If she can hold her forces and their fragile alliances together, Adjunct Tavore Paran means to challenge the gods.

Ranged against Tavore and her allies are the Fokrul Assail. Their desire is to cleanse the world - to eradicate every civilization, to annihilate every human - in order to begin anew.

And outside the abandoned city of Kharkanas, thousands have gathered upon the First Shore. Led by Yedan Derryg, they are preparing for the coming of the Tiste Liosan - and a battle they cannot win.

It had long been known that there would be a reckoning, but not the true terrifying scale of what was to come. For the Elder Gods seek to shatter the chains that bind a force of …

It took me a while given all that was going on in my life, but I finally finished this book and I am so glad! Like the other Malazan books, this starts of slowly but inexorably speeds up to a massive finale that leaves you breathless. As the final book of the series, it does it job very well managing to tie together so many different threads that I am left impressed at the scope and magnitude of the story. The characters are still the same ones we have come to love (and hate) and the prose is still as intricate as the prior books. Overall, I very much enjoyed the concluding novel of this series.

This was one good read... 10 books long.
Too much to digest. I have to re-read (someday, somewhere later this year or the next) the entire series in order to write a proper review.

In short: I Loved it. Capital L. Erikson is one special writer. Everything else pales besides these 10 books. This last book... ah the feelz. Brutal. Beautiful. Katharsis.

After a disappointing #9 I finally finished the series. I am glad I was able to enjoy the finale again. Finally many or even most of the storylines converge and all my favorites make a last appearance.

However the end also leaves me a bit confused, what happened ... why really did Cotillion do that?
