To me, this book is about how life is not going to happen the way we expect, and about the unpredictable consequences of our minor acts and how sometimes we have to be bigger than ourselves to stand up for the people around us and play with what dignity and humanity we have the cards we're dealt. I felt for Ian every step of the way, and although I didn't always understand or share everything he decided to do, I could see why he did it and respected him. Great character. I wish him the best.
