It's a wonder that this book is so under-mentioned and neglected in the Alan Moore canon. It's a tour de force in terms of achievement. To take well-known characters in literature and reinterpret and recontextualize them purely as sexual beings, and doing it without demeaning or diminishing their essence, is – to use an oft-misused word – genius.
Fact and fiction - only madmen and magistrates cannot distinguish between them.
