This book, with its blazing, haunting images and memorable tales from an unknown lore, made a lasting impression on me and was deeply impactful to my childhood. The tales of giants, gods, shape-changers and strange beasts inspired my imagination in ways that were only vaguely recollected by the recent popularity of the Thor-brand of comic-book Norse.
Not necessarily a great bedtime story for children, but a work of art with stories that belong alongside any of Grimm's fairy tales or Greek mythology.
