Review of 'Larklight' on 'Goodreads'

Maybe I was in the wrong mood for this book. I love Phillip Reeve, but this reminded me more of one of those Paul Steward and Chris Riddle books. Lots of absurd situations that should be funny and fascinating, with gigantic houses floating in space, strange creatures etc - but I just could not relate to the characters or get inside the story. I felt like it was trying too hard to be "quirky" and so it just fell flat for me. I could not get past the first chapter.
