α - I read a shorter article on hckrnews by Frenkel - perhaps an exert from this book - focusing on Langland's program.
≬ - Integers are related to a 2 string braid. IIRC Gödel's incompleteness theorem stipulates that adding numbers into a system cause that system to be incomplete. I wonder if that extends to braids...
