Scrappy Little Nobody is a collection of stories, of sorts. There isn't necessarily a red thread through the book but more a "oh, I just remembered, I absolutely have to tell you this" vibe. I read the audio book, or more correctly, the author read it to me. I love books read by the author, as there is finally closure about the "what did the author want to tell us?"-question. She just told you!
I actually love (celebrity) memoirs best if I have no idea, who that person is supposed to be, and it worked wonderfully, again. I have seen Into the Woods and I loved it, but other than that I had no idea who Anna Kendrick was. I loved her writing, it was really funny and down to earth. All in all an entertaining look into the life of an almost normal twenty-something. I guess.

I'll be honest - I couldn't pick Anna Kendrick out from a crowd. After listening to this book, I had to go to IMDB to figure out what characters she had played in the movies she mentioned - and I'd just seen The Accountant. Anyway - I share that to explain that I headed into this with zero context or expectations. And I walked away a fan. She has a strong voice. It's funny and candid - and she swears well, which is always a plus. This was the book I was hoping for when I read Amy Schumer's "Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo" - it was well organized/structured, well told, engaging, …

I'm not a big fan of celebrity memoirs. I'm also not a big fan of memoirs written by people in their 20s. So why would I listen to this audiobook?

I took a chance on it because I figured that Anna Kendrick's public persona is funny so maybe the book would be too. I was right.

This isn't a straight biography. Her life isn't told in strict chronological order. This is more a series of stories that illustrates different points in her life. I hadn't realized that she was in a Broadway musical as a kid. She talks about her life in California before she could get a job. You find out what changes when you get famous and what doesn't. This book also has the best book group discussion questions ever.

If you want a fun, short book about the ups and downs of show business with a large …
