This was the last book by Svetlana Alexievich I hadn't read, and it felt like the first one she had written. The book is a series of recollections under one large theme, where in her later books, recollections are presented in an order or a theme that tells several overarching stories. It makes sense that she'd need to find her method, and it was interesting to see where it started. Only read this book if you have strong nerves though, oh how these children suffered.
