The true story of Detective Ron Stallworth, the first black detective in the Colorado Springs Police Department, who in 1978 went undercover to investigate the KKK.
Definitely written by a cop.
Kudos to Stallworth for making fools of the KKK. But between begging and pleading to be a narc, gleefully spying on Civil Rights organizer Kwame Ture, and repeatedly showing contempt for groups like the PLP, he was difficult to take seriously as a sympathetic figure, let alone an unambiguous hero.
