It happens at the start of every November: the Scorpio Races. Riders attempt to keep hold of their water horses long enough to make it to the finish line.

Some riders live. Others die.

At age nineteen, Sean Kendrick is the returning champion. He is a young man of few words, and if he has any fears, he keeps them buried deep, where no one else can see them.

Puck Connolly is different. She never meant to ride in the Scorpio Races. But fate hasn't given her much of a chance. So she enters the competition — the first girl ever to do so. She is in no way prepared for what is going to happen.

I'm not quite sure why this one took me so long to finish, but I really struggled with the first 2/3. I thought the end brought it all back for me, for the most part. There was something so unsettling about the whole story (and I'm not really pleased the Gabe section of the story was left unresolved, but I guess that's the way life goes), and the bad guy was just a little TOO BAD for my taste. That was also wrapped up a little too neatly. Overall, I really enjoyed it and I think I enjoy it more thinking about it than I did reading it. If that makes sense.
