Nice novel. Not brilliant (the usual scheme - an elderly semi-retired detective solves a crime acting against orders of his superiors, a serial murderer of women). I would read some other stuff by the author though. I liked the writing and the local atmosphere the author managed to recreate. Something I have to point out not about this novel, but in general - the prevalence of serial murderers of women in the detective novels' genre is rather annoying. Yes - women get murdered. Men get murdered as well. So I wonder whether it is one more way to encourage the notion of women as potential victims.
