Review of 'Winter garden' on 'Goodreads'

Parts of the story involving the siege of Leningrad was quite interesting, but I wasn't really a fan of the tie into modern day.

Review of 'Winter garden' on 'Goodreads'

Maybe this book deserves more than two stars, but I just can't do it. Here's why:
+ I'm getting tired of dual-timeline/flashback WWII books.
+ Thinly-masked fairy tales as literary devices feel cheap and lazy.
+ "Gee, it never occurred to me that my mom might have survived a war, despite her accent."
+ Even a class of kindergartners would facepalm over the ridiculously coincidental final reveal.

Save yourself time. If you're going to read a Kristin Hannah book, stick with "The Nightingale."
