A murder reveals a deadly plot against Elves, particurally the highest members of the Alfheim government, and Lee Enfiled, and her fayhound partner Gelert must infiltrate Alfheim to discover the truth.
I admit, I was hoping for a police procedural by page 10 or so. This? Was significantly more/other than that, and good fun.
This is a fantasy novel, with alternate worlds, and a police procedural with legal wrangling and investigations. I like the tough woman protagonist and her sentient-kinda-big-dog partner a lot. It rather reminded me of Kate Wilhelm's mystery novels, which are set in the present day, with no fantasy elements at all.
