Review of 'Lick of Frost, A (Meredith Gentry)' on 'Goodreads'

I was on a sort of easy-reading kick and had been "catching up" on my Laurel K. Hamilton when I wrote this review in 2010. The last Merry book I'd read was back in March of 2007. I recall really enjoying the first books in this series, partially because the plot-point for requiring sex was set out clearly. One thing that had annoyed me with how the Anita Blake series turned is that the amount of sex was gratuitous and not in line with how the series started. I also just liked Merry. I liked how her people were drawn.

I felt this book was not up to the usual Merry level. Maybe because it had been 3 years since I'd read a Merry book, but I was a little surprised at the lack of sex scenes. Although at under 300 pages, this books is a little shorter than the previous Merry books. Perhaps all the sex scenes were cut.
I think I would have enjoyed this book more if I'd been able to read it right away. Or maybe it is just a bit of a disappointment. Although I see I have 2 more books in the series yet to read out now, and it looks like Swallowing Darkness picks up very closely to when A Lick of Frost drops off. I was surprised at how this book ended. I look forward to the next book in the series, if only to see what happens next.
