A baby goes missing while parents are next door at a party with some people they mostly hate.
Now from day one, the best thing these people could of done is leave that baby at the hospital and try their luck with a hamster, but then they might have ended up like their terrible neighbors, who are stereotypically self-involved child-free sociopaths. But instead of taking the poor thing away to be raised by the state, they all go to jerk practice and score lots of points.
Not a great book by any means, but lots of unrealistic, somewhat clever and fun plot twists abound, and the self-righteous might love hating all the people in it, because despite the anemic and one-dimensional characters, they do just enough to make you shake your head and feel superior. It was kind of a funny book, I just kept thinking, oh no you didn't …

What annoyed me- the calling of Dick father all the time but he is the stepfather and that weirdness is never developed or explained. Also the detective was a good start but could have been more. A pop song novel that is easy to digest. I would read another book by this author though I am not sure why. Maybe the plot twists? Maybe it is fun to hate?
I did binge this in two days because the story was so captivating that I had to know what happened, but I couldn't give it five stars because the characters where two-dimensional at times and (in my opinion) think it would have been better to end on chapter 36 than 37. Still, the narrative was tight and I couldn't put this mystery down.
This honestly wasn't one of the best books I've ever read. I didn't really like any of the characters to become invested in their stories, or even their lives. I mostly wanted to know what happened to the baby, and if she lived. Not sure if I'll be reading anything else by this author. All the characters were pretty shallow in my humble opinion.
