An advertorial masquerading as a story. By 25% in I didn’t care what happened to anyone in the ‘plot’ formulaic and tedious. His first books were clever.

The protagonist is a thoroughly dislikable man. He is violent, psychopathic, sexist, arrogant and rich. I think that was meant to introduce some subtlety (the grey shades mentioned at the end of the book), but that didn't really work for me.
The plot worked well. It was twisty but convincing and kept me turning the pages. That is, after all, what you want from a thriller, and this book delivered on that.
I read the book in Dutch translation by Jan Pott. It was mostly good, and the English in the background wasn't too intrusive, but a few over literal bits crept through, "dat zeugt" (presumably for 'it sucks'), and a few question tags ("nu weten we de antwoorden, is het niet").
