An entertaining text on a frequently-ignored portion of Texas history

Wonderfully written and well researched. Can frequently be gory, but you can't really discuss the history of the plains Indians without a frank discussion of violence. Highly recommended for anyone with an interest in Texas history or Native American tribes.

A valid criticism of this book is that it plays up racist stereotypes of Native Americans as enjoying violence, among other things, but I found it to be a fascinating historical account of a part of Western history of which I was unaware.
