Lush illustrations --the black and white is better than the two color chapters. Texture and line are unique and use of space and layout to show the passage of time is fabulous. I re-read several chapters as I went just because I didn't want to finish the book too soon!
As a kid, I never understood the larger story about justice and the way that each tale builds on the central cruelty of keeping a woman alive only on a whim. I will be re-reading this one.
