Bird Box is a 2014 post-apocalyptic novel and the debut novel by American writer and singer Josh Malerman. The book was first published in the United Kingdom on March 27, 2014, through Harper Voyager and in the United States on May 13, 2014, through Ecco Press. The book follows a woman who must find a way to guide herself and her children to safety despite the potential threat from an unseen adversary. The story is partially told via flashbacks and takes place during three time periods. A sequel to the book, titled Malorie, was released on July 21, 2020. Bird Box was adapted into a film of the same name in 2018.

I guess this book was pretty good, but somehow it didn't fit my feelings for a "horror" book. I don't know, I suppose the situation should have been terrifying, but I just didn't "FEEL" it. It was good, and things followed from each other, but meh, it didn't do it for me…

A clever end of the world/horror story with several plot problems.

1. Birds do not make noise when they sense danger. They are silent. Canaries in mines were used because they died from noxious gas before the miners were aware of it, they did not get noisier. Also, how did the birds survive in a box for weeks or months? The author merely says it was odd that they did.

2. The premise is that people who see a particular being (almost certainly an alien life form), become insane instantly and kill themselves and maybe someone near them with whatever is at hand. But a key character, Gary, can apparently see them without this effect. Is it because he is crazy already? I don't know, but this is a big plot problem; essentially a trick played on the reader. Il y a quatre ans, Malorie tombe enceinte, au moment où le monde bascule dans le chaos et l’inconnu. Les suicides violents se multiplient, sans explication autre que celle d’une vision tellement effroyable que les victimes en deviennent folles au point de se donner la mort. Seule solution en l’absence de réelle explication, sortir les yeux bandés, ou ne plus sortir du tout. Malorie élève donc ses enfants confinés dans une maison désormais isolée du monde et les oblige à porter un bandeau lors de rares sorties. Le personnage de Malorie est très dur, c’est une mère obsédée par la discipline qu’elle impose à ses enfants encore petits, de manière à les rendre attentifs à ce qu’ils ne peuvent pas voir. Vient le jour préparé si minutieusement, le jour de leur fuite. Commence alors une course contre la montre pour le trio, une course en aveugle dans l’inconnu, l’invisible, le …
