LIGHTS ARE BRIGHT.

JAZZ IS KING.

PARTIES ARE WILD.

AND THE DEAD ARE COMING.

Seldom do I find a third book even better than the ones before but Libby Bray delivers with this one. The threads from the first two books come together and pay off, and events which once seemed random are revealed to have explicit purpose.

Even more rewarding is the elegant way in which the plots continue to highlight the problems of our own modern day. This is an excellent young adult book showcasing a diverse cast and highlighting both the horrors and wonders of America’s own young adulthood: acceptance of the eugenics movement, racial discrimination, labour discrimination, compared to the viral spirit of hope and equality which makes up the American dream.

I specially recommend reading the authors note at the end, in fact if you do nothing else, read the authors note at the end.

If you need to understand why this book crested the very steep incline behind which I keep my five star ratings, skip to chapter 10, The Dead. This series is worthy of a Pulitzer in my valueless opinion, and this installment drives that point home hard.
