Bill Bryson writes in a cynical, biting style that I usually quite enjoy, but in this book seems to exist only to fill in tremendous gaps in narrative that should otherwise be occupied actually describing CARE’s work in Kenya, or even simply Bryson’s experiences travelling about the country. As it is, this was a breezy, forgettable read, which is a pity to say of a book written to support such a worthy cause.
