Amazing achievement. It is great to find out the side of the story of the Wicked Witch. The book was more political than I was expecting, and also dealt with racism in the form of Animals being treated the same as animals. I've always been a fan of the orginal Wizard of Oz book and even though I've read it a few times I never grasped just how big the land Oz was. Gregory Maguire also brings to life some of the side characters from the original story. I think to fully apreciate Wicked you'll need to be a fan of the orginal book and even better if you've read more in the original series.

All in all it is a very clever story that has been planned out so well, you can see Gregory Maguire has big ideas for the land of Oz.
