Incarceron is a prison so vast that it contains not only cells, but also metal forests, dilapidated cities, and vast wilderness. Finn, a seventeen-year-old prisoner, has no memory of his childhood and is sure that he came from Outside Incarceron. Very few prisoners believe that there is an Outside, however, which makes escape seems impossible. And then Finn finds a crystal key that allows him to communicate with a girl named Claudia. She claims to live Outside. She is the daughter of the Warden of Incarceron, and doomed to an arranged marriage. Finn is determined to escape the prison, and Claudia believes she can help him. But they don't realize that there is more to Incarceron than meets the eye. Escape will take their greatest courage and cost more than they know. - Publisher.
Very good concept and story potential, however, it is slow to catch up and the story in itself is not the most cativating. What the author can create with this universe can achieve a great series, lets see what the other books will add to it.
Ugh! I really, really wanted to like this book. I thought the concept was interesting, but the execution was absolutely atrocious. Editing!! There are two main plot threads that Fisher attempts to intertwine and effectively ruins both. None of the characters are allowed to build because she allows no time to pass before abrasively cutting to the other thread. The plot is one where you'll at least want to finish it to see what happens, but be prepared for a very unsatisfactory ending that was obviously tailor made for a sequel or perhaps a trilogy.
I'm undecided if I'll continue the series... while I'm curious to see how the worlds evolve, my fear is that it will leave me disappointed.
Think the Matrix trilogy but without the excellent opening installment.
This was a really bizarre book. It actually took me quite a while to figure out what was going on, and I still think there are holes in the narrative. Incarceron is the name of a prison created for different reasons depending on who you ask (which is a nice commentary on our own prison system). However, this prison is unique in that it is sentient, keeping tabs on all its prisoners at all times. The creepiest part of the prison is that there is no entrance or escape. The population is born and will die in Incarceron, or better yet FROM Incarceron. The story centers around Finn, a "starseer" whose memories only go back a few years. Convinced he was born Outside, Finn, along with other stragglers, aim to make their escape. This story is really convoluted and their are multiple characters, each with his or her own motives, …

This story is really convoluted and their are multiple characters, each with his or her own motives, so I'm really trying to condense this. They receive unexpected help from Claudia, the daughter of the Warden of Incarceron, who lives Outside. This is beginning to make less sense, so I suggest you simply read the book!
