Doesn't play to Larson's strengths

Churchill and the Blitz, with source material from many ancillary characters who might have been more fascinating as the focus, which is tightly on Churchill's movements in his first year as PM. Necessarily selective while trying to add color and context from family, secretaries, and Germans, this doesn't tie up well for me but is nonetheless well written and researched.

A live recount of the darkest hours

Like watching a love show of history, simply brilliant perspective of the darkest hours in history.
Pearl harbor was a much bigger strategic blunder than i previously thought.

2.5 stars. Larson’s gift is his ability to bring drama to historical events, but in this novel, the factual details simply overwhelm the sense of plot. Not my favorite of his, despite the compelling subject matter.
