Mike reviewed The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave
I nearly didn't finish it.
2 stars
The pages turned easily, but it was a dreary story with no character engagement.

This is a magnificent read. It is not only well written but offers a complex story line filled with surprises, joy, anger, frustration and hope. The tale deals with family by choice, unique partnership, complex inter-relationships and committment. Life is never simple, rarely goes to plan, and success is taken not given.
This was a VERY fast listen. In fact, it almost felt like the book had been streamlined a bit TOO much – I would've enjoyed a few more twists and turns, and more character development. That said, the premise immediately hooked me and I was curious to see how it would turn out. I was tempted to give this four stars because it was an enjoyable, effortless listen, but I can't let go of the missed opportunities to make this book really pop.
Great read. An excellent mystery that kept me engaged and turning pages until the very end. I'd recommend it to anyone.
This probably deserves 4 stars, but I’m really not a mystery reader.
