Mike started reading Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
Mike finished reading One, Two, Buckle My Shoe by Agatha Christie
Well, that went in directions I didn't expect! I was slightly worried it was heading in the direction of The Big Four, but thankfully not.

@book.wayfarer@ramblingreaders.org I'm pretty sure I'll read others, but need something faster paced for a break!

The adventures and pranks of a mischievous boy growing up in a Mississippi River town …
It took me a while, but I got there! Lots of fun, but tinged with sadness at the racism of the time. That aside, I loved the window into the past.

Steadily working through the classics.
Mike finished reading Scarlet Pimpernel, The by Emmuska Orczy, Baroness Orczy (Scarlet Pimpernel (1))
Some good bits in the first third. But far too much aristocrat brown nosing, sycophants, misogynism and antisemitism to recommend. Quite uncomfortable reading, even allowing for what was 'acceptable' at the time. Birth of the superhero it might be, good writing it is not.

Been on my wishlist since the TV show in 1999 😂 Will I be able to read it without seeing Richard E Grant?
