A fine fairy tale, written in the old high style - which occasionally tends towards preciosity. A snow maiden's heart is melted by the unwanted irruption of a baby into her life. When he comes to manhood, the maiden puts herself in mortal danger which she escapes only at an almost intolerable price. Isolated from those she loves by her pain, she becomes that which she most abhors. In the end, love triumphs.
