Thoroughly enjoyed this. Rural fantasy (new genre for me) that follows a Navajo monster hunter as she deals with deities and witches with a hot medicine man on the rez. There’s a second book already out that I can’t wait to read.
A Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy starring a woman and set within Native American mythology. Trail of lighting hits the right points, addressing the female POV on relationships and toxic masculinity. As well as giving voice to a different culture.
But otherwise the story stays within the usual lines of its genre.
This was a fun read, and evokes its setting very effectively. But it also falls into some formulaic fantasy traps that detracted a lot from the ending for me.
