Prague, 1942. Operation Anthropoid: two Czech parachutists are sent on a mission to London to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich, chief of the Nazi secret serviceh. But alongside the nerve-shredding preparations for the attack runs another story: when you are a novelist writing about real people, how do you resist the temptation to make things up?

This is a triumph. A novel on the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich wrapped in the author demolishing the fourth wall from the beginning, walking the reader through his struggles of what it would mean to turn a documentary into a novel and then not doing it, except sometimes. Walking us through other authors writing about this. And where in the beginning his approach is reminiscent of Patrick Modiano, towards the end yet another unexplained layer enters that mixes the narratives in a more (Paul) Auster way.
I'm not even mad I accidentally bought the French audiobook first.
