The writing style is wonderful- hilariously, pompously overblown, matching the decadence and primness of the wealthy and would-be wealthy of the late 19th century. Erastus fandorin is a charming, funny, unexpected hero.
It would be five stars but I saw all the bad guy twists coming a mile away--so no surprises. But already looking forward to book 2.
