What starts as a mystery develops into equal parts crime and ghost story - really drew me in.
This book told as letters or monologues by the parties involved looking into a mystery at a lighthouse. I found the style a bit bizarre as I thought it would make more sense as a dialogue between the interviewer and the person, but no. Also the mystery itself I found a bit odd. Complicated relationships between the men working at the lighthouse and their partners/wives living in the same house provided with the job. Jealousy, affairs and other emotions one would expect from such situation do arise. I just could not get invested in this story, couldn't relate to the characters and found the mystery not so mysterious.

The ending didn't do it for me

The prose, the tone, the setting - just altogether wonderful! I am now obsessed with lighthouses & appreciate the 'further reading' bit after the end.
