Heather, I think you tried too hard here. It was like you were forcing the literary element because they were selling it as a literary item. If you are going to try to make a valid statement or tell a story that is going to resonate with readers who like to think for themselves and be surprised then loading your prose with words that seem forced when written and said and trying to weave the perfectly descriptive sentence is not the way to go. Stock characters like Griff are TERRIBLE mistakes and I was almost certain you could have surprised me. You have promise. But I kind of knew where the book was going and therefore did not finish and have no intentions of finishing this book. Now you may say, "who are you?" and "what do you know about writing"? Please, on your next attempt, try cutting the rookie mistakes and write a novel that I can sink my teeth into.
