This is an engaging, well-researched novel. The story meshes the life of Andi, a modern, privileged, angst-ridden musical prodigy from Brooklyn with the life of Alexandrine, a spy, actress and counter revolutionary during the French Revolution. Andi struggles to understand the death of her little brother two years previously while coping with her depressed mother and estranged father. After finding a diary written by Alexandrine, she becomes so involved with Alexandrine's revolution that she has a revolution of her own. Loaded with witty dialogue from brilliant, sarcastic teens, and set mostly in Paris, this novel would be great for teens with a passion for music (especially guitar), for France, history or the revolution. The repartee and musical conversation is reminiscent of Nick and Norah's infinite play list, and fans of David Levithan will be sure to enjoy Revolution.
