This was intelligently written and worthwhile, but I found it disappointing. I enjoyed the journey around the Middle East, but I wanted more analysis, history and reflection. I would have liked more conversations with drinkers and non drinkers. The most interesting part of the book by far is the chapters on the author's life and history with alcohol, so much so that the traveling narrative was a distraction.
