I won't try and take up TOO much time since I am very sleep deprived and fresh off the highs of reading this book... but it was stellar.
THIS is what I mean when I say I want to see bold, imaginative, and creative works. This is what I mean when I say I want to see representation of queer black women in literature.

This work pulses with life, love, and felt so TANGIBLE and REAL as I read. I literally played this out like a movie in my head. I could see it so clearly, felt the emotions... the rawness, the reality of the plot, the words, the characters. This resonated with me, as someone who has a difficult relationship with his mother; as a queer black woman, an abused one. I really felt raw and seen when reading this, but felt no shame when I saw words, sentences, moments that called out to me.
This was so poetic without the pretention you see white authors claim they don't have. In my opinion, Yah Yah is allowed to be as pretentious as desired. It's earned. Beyond earned.
I may sound corny but this was poetic. I could tell this was a labor of love, this was crafted so well to where I felt like I was holding within my hands a raw slab of meat for a good, hearty meal for later. I felt feed, seen, cared for; yet had someone for the first time in my life, acknowledge my own aches and gripes, my flaws and truly show me a mirror of my own fleeting, impulsive thoughts.
This book was worth the wait, worth the read. If I could, I'd reread it again for the first time to experience it. Yah Yah deserves awards, book deals, movie and show deals. All good things that are so deserved solely based on this work alone. I would shell out anything I could to see a production of this.
Chances are I myself will make fanart, moodboards, etc. I already made a playlist for one of the characters, something I don't do for characters who are not my own.
I loved this book, and I so desperately want everyone to know it. Yah Yah already had my admiration, my respect; but I will truly be singing her praises to any and everyone wherever possible.
