I was enjoying some aspects of this, like the theme of going “home” to the country of your parents as an American, and the ways that’s awkward and even misguided. But this is literary to the MAX in ways that started to be too much for me. I stopped at this line:

Afterward, I asked her what she was thinking as she drifted off to sleep. She sighed dreamily with the whole of both lungs like a woman in the arms of a man she loves. Then I swear I heard her say: Pomegranate seeds.
