This let me down; I was expecting detective fiction, and read something that featured a detective that made lucky guesses, or logical jumps, without actually doing much detecting. In a few key spots, Sam Spade does indeed investigate and find a clue, but much of the story is driven by Sam's brash behavior and apparent guesses to the facts.
I was not impressed.
