On Tyranny (Graphic Edition) - 4 Stars

I had been meaning to read this for a while, but it took on greater urgency after the 2024 election. It's an eye-opening book that provides essential historical context and important insights into how tyrants rise to power. Since this is the graphic edition, there's a note at the end by the illustrator, Nora Krug, explaining some the choices she made with the artwork ... very interesting.

Interesting Lessons, but obviously a shallower lead in for his other works

I thought this short treatise proposed valuable lessons distilled from Snyder’s deep knowledge of the Nazi regime and the Holocaust. His point is to illuminate warning signs of a liberal democracy heading toward fascism, and some of his thoughts on how we (as a collective body of citizens and as individuals) can prevent this fall. Overall, though, this is clearly a very digestible one hour read that summarizes themes present in his longer works, to which I plan to turn in due time.
